Argiano
Our First Stop Monday 7/02/07
Castle built in the 15th century
Argiano Produces Wine, Grappa, and Olive Oil
Quote of the Tour: "Who.... Mr Parker..... you mean the God...hahaha"
The Vineyards are located in the southern area of Montalicino. All sangiovese wines are aged in large casks. Brunellos, Reservas, and high end I.G.T.s are aged in small french oak Barriques
Wine Notes:
2005 Rosso di Montalcino
Rosso is selected once the grape come into the cellar. All wines are farmed like they are destine to be brunello but the lesser of the fruit is used for Rosso.
Light ruby color. Bright nose of tart raspberry and cherry. Rustic classic sangiovese on the palate. Dry stiff tannin, little oak. Comes out a bit with a few minutes of air.
2005 Non Confunditur IGT (Not to be Confused)
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Sangiovese. Baby-Super Tuscan
Round, Supple, Easy Drinking. Medium to Long Finish. New World
2002 Brunello di Montalcino
5000 cases produced, half as much as a normal year
light browning on the edge, dirty dark cherry and blue berry on the nose. Long finish of black and red fruits wrapped in oak. Very pinot like. Restaurant Friendly Brunello.
2004 Solengo Super Tuscan 93pt RP
17 months in New French Oak
Dark Garnet Color. Barrel toast and Vanilla are apparent on the nose. Moist fresh earth mixed with ripe dark black berry and blue berry. Polished and ripe without being over extracted or Jammy. Beautifully Balanced!
2004 Suolo 'Soil"
100% Sangiovese from two vineyards ranging in age of 15yrs to 40yrs
Dark ruby to Garnet Color. Very aromatic with flowers and red fruits. Brown sugar, smoke, and red fruit on the palate. Extremely layered and complex with short, medium, and long tannin. The oak is obvious but well integrated. Beautiful!

What you must know about my notes....
Users of this Blog please understand:
This is a compilation of my notes from the Quality Wine & Spirits Tuscan Focus Summer Trip 2007
My notes were scribbled down while in dark cellars often while chasing after the group as we were toured quickly through each entire winery. They are not perfect but only what I heard. I don't have notes on every winery as my a.d.d. didn't allow me to focus that much while standing in some of the most beautiful wineries, vineyards, and homes on the plant!
Again thank you to everyone in the group for bringing a unique perspective to Tuscany and what we do at Quality Wine!
Most of all Molti Grazie to Tony Ridings for your preparation and planning of such a well executed trip!
